IDEA AWARDS GALA 2017

Now in its 11th year, the Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) is Australia’s largest and most successful independent design awards program. Launched by inside magazine in 2003, the program celebrates the best of Australian interior and product design across 11 categories and five Special Awards. Here, we share more from the 2017 IDEA Gala.

It was a sold-out event at Melbourne's beautiful Meat Market as the 2017 IDEA program came to a close. The Gala saw 19 winners taking the stage, awarded for their outstanding work across a range of categories including Sustainability, Hospitality, Object, Public Space, Retail, Workplace, Residential and more.

Cult has supported the IDEA awards since the very first event in 2003, sponsoring the coveted ‘Designer of the Year’ category for the last 12 years. This year, we're so proud to award SJB as the 'Designer of the Year' for 2017. As one of the most established interior design firms in Australia, SJB has over 40 years experience across architecture, interiors, urban design and planning and a wide portfolio of projects including residential, office, commercial, recreation, hospitality and education.

Shortlisted SJB projects this year include 12 Micron (Hospitality), A Private Park (Residential Single), A Private Residence (Residential Decoration), Adina Apartment Hotel Nuremberg (International), Buena (Hospitality), Chifley (Public Space & Retail), Cleveland & Co (Public Space), Oliver Lane Studio, Melbourne (Workplace over 1000sqm) and Toorak Residence (Residential Single & Residential Decoration).

Catered by Blakes Feast with wine by Vinomofo, the 2017 IDEA Gala was a high point on the design community’s social calendar. A big congratulations to all winners, highly commended and shortlisted practices.

About IDEA

The Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) is Australia’s largest and most successful independent design awards program. Launched by inside magazine in 2003, the program celebrates the best of Australian interior and product design across 11 categories and five Special Awards. The program has been growing steadily each year, and now attracts hundreds of entries from practices and designers from across Australia. Entries are judged by a panel of design industry professionals, each of whom brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the judging process. As well as attracting submissions from some of the country’s leading architecture and design firms, the program also helps to support emerging local designers. All shortlisted projects are published in a special shortlist edition of inside magazine, appear on the IDEA and Australian Design Review websites, are on display during our new format Jury Day and evening ‘Designer of the Year’ event. Winners are determined by the jury, with winners announced at the IDEA Gala Party in November.
