Entries are now open for the fourth edition of the Mercedes-Benz Design Award, where one up-and-coming designer has the chance to win the career opportunity of a life-time.
We're pleased to annouce that once again we're partnering with Broadsheet and Mercedes-Benz on the fourth edition of the Mercedes-Benz Design Award (MBDA), a celebration of excellence in design that seeks to uncover new Australian design talent and help kickstart their career.
Chosen from four finalists, the winning designer will enter into an intensive mentorship program lead by MBDA judges, who will guide the winning design through the prototyping and manufacturing process to be championed in Cult showrooms. The winner will also receive a Mercedes-Benz to drive throughout 2019!
The line-up of expert MBDA judges includes Richard Munao, Cult Founder and Director, Tom Fereday, winner of the 2017 MBDA and designer of the SIA chair, André Dutkowski, Senior Product Manager at Mercedes-Benz Cars, Katya Wachtel, Editorial Director of Broadsheet and Adele Winteridge, Founding Director of Foolscap Studio.
This year, the design brief calls for sustainably-minded solutions for home living, from coffee tables and lamps, to entertainment units and footrests, with a retail value of no more than $2000.
Entries are now open for this year’s award and will close on Friday 21 December 2018, with four finalists being announced at the end of January and the winner announced at the end of February. Click here for entry details. We can't wait to see your designs!

“Having a design prototyped, produced and presented to the market is an exciting opportunity for any designer. To then take part in that process of guiding them through the journey as part of the mentorship program is something I most look forward each year,” Richard Munao, Cult Founder and Director.
