Sofa With arms Black edition is a limited edition of the unforgettable armchair Sofa With Arms designed by Shiro Kuramata in 1982. This iconic product was designed with a chromed structure and seat / backrest in woolen cloth in bright colors, to furnish the showrooms and offices of fashion designer Issey Miyake. The synergy in the use of colors and materials between these two great designers has always been very strong. Just think of Kuramata's use of a lively multicolor Terrace for floors and tables in the Miyake spaces or the beautiful perfume bottle he designed. To celebrate this partnership, Cappellini has decided to produce an edition of 33-piece each of the armchair with an anthracite metal frame and velvet covering in four brilliant colors. Blue, green, magenta and alchemilla (yellow) that immediately recall the clothes of the famous fashion designer. Sofa With Arms Black Edition is ready to become a cult object to collect , like many other Cappellini limited editions.
From 1965, when Shiro Kuramata founded the Kuramata Design Office in Tokyo, to 1991, when he died, Kuramata designed some of the most significant and lasting items ever produced. Besides his connection with the Japanese design world, Kuramata’s significance in western design is shown first with Memphis, than in 1987 with Cappellini which made him its best designer to introduce the brand on international stage. His work is represented in the permanent collections of Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, of New York Moma, of Metropolitan Museum and of the Museum of Modern Art in Toyama.
