Based on the original Rey Collection designed by Swiss designer Bruno Rey in 1971, HAY has teamed up with Dietiker to relaunch the Rey Chair. With its distinctively rounded edges and curved backrest, it was the first chair to be patented with Dietiker’s unique screwless wood-to-metal connection and has become one of the most successful Swiss chairs of all time. Its solid construction, strength and stackable design give it a timeless quality that makes it suitable for using in a wide variety of domestic, public or corporate settings. The iconic chair has been modified in new dimensions and material combinations to accommodate contemporary lifestyle requirements. Made in solid wood, it is available in original colours, as well as new tones and upholstered seat options selected by HAY.
Bruno Rey was born in 1933 Brugg, Switzerland. After an apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker, he studied at the Zurich School of Applied Arts, where he attended classes with the pioneering designer Willy Guhl.
He opened his own studio in 1968, working on an innovative chair design that was mass produced in 1971 by Dietiker in Stein am Rhein. 3300 as the chair was originally called, later became known as Rey, the most successful Swiss chair of all time. HAY has collaborated with Dietiker to present the Rey Collection by Bruno Rey, comprising the Rey Chair, Rey Stool and Bar Stool, and Rey Table and Coffee Table.
