70 YEARS OF ZANOTTA - Celebrating The New Collection
Celebrating 70 Years of Zanotta: A Journey Through Iconic Design
In 1954, a small Italian company named Zanotta began its journey in the world of design. Over the past seven decades, Zanotta has grown into a beacon of creativity and innovation, leaving an indelible mark on the design landscape. From the introduction of removable covers for upholstered furniture to the pioneering use of glass and steel in the Marcuso table, Zanotta has consistently pushed the boundaries of what is possible in design.
The brand's history is punctuated by collaborations with some of the most renowned designers, including Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Gae Aulenti, and Ettore Sottsass. These partnerships have produced iconic pieces like the Sacco chair, a symbol of 1970s Italian design, and the Quaderna table, a testament to the radical design movement of the time.
As Zanotta celebrates its 70th anniversary, it continues to honour its legacy while looking towards the future. This year, the brand unveiled a new flagship store in Milan's design district, a space that embodies Zanotta's commitment to innovation and excellence. The store's striking all-orange interior served as a backdrop for the latest collections, showcasing the brand's ability to blend tradition with contemporary design.
Introducing the New Zanotta Collection at Cult Design
Cult Design is thrilled to announce that Zanotta's latest collection, launched at Salone Del Mobile 2024, is now available in our showrooms across Australia. Among the many new arrivals, we are particularly excited to share a few standout pieces that exemplify Zanotta's dedication to craftsmanship, sustainability, and cutting-edge design:
Za:Za Max Sofa
Based on the success of the Za:Za sofa introduced in 2022, the Venetian duo Zaven has taken innovation a step further with the launch of Za:Za Max, an evolution that highlights Zanotta's commitment to environmental sustainability. Made from recycled and recyclable materials, this modular sofa offers various configurations, allowing for creative and personalized interior design. Its deep seat and plush cushions provide unparalleled comfort, making it a perfect addition to any living space.
Z24 Collection
Designed by Belgian duo Muller Van Severen, the Z24 collection consists of various elements designed to meet a wide range of functional and aesthetic needs: a sideboard, ideal for the living room or the dining room; a nightstand, perfect for the bedroom; and two low storage units that can be used in various areas of the home, such as the living room or entrance hall. These pieces are available in a sophisticated palette of colours, selected to offer a wide range of options to fit various living and design contexts. The collection features neutral LED lighting and a distinctive zigzag pattern that creates a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, adding depth and character to any room.
Gomma Armchair
The re-edition of the Gomma armchair, originally designed in 1970 by Jonathan De Pas, Donato D'Urbino, and Paolo Lomazzi, brings a touch of playful pop design to contemporary interiors. With its foam rubber frame and removable fabric upholstery, the Gomma armchair combines comfort with sustainability, reflecting Zanotta's innovative spirit.
Giuno Armchair
The Giuno armchair offers both comfort and practicality with its enveloping seat and optional rotating base. Constructed with a steel frame and padded with self-extinguishing polyurethane foam, Giuno is designed for safety and comfort. The seat cushion, filled with regenerated polyester spheres, and the removable fabric cover highlight Zanotta's dedication to environmental responsibility.
Ta.Ba.Ce. Collection
Philippe Malouin's Ta.Ba.Ce. collection showcases the innovative use of ceramic. Inspired by the unglazed base of vases from the ceramic craft process, Malouin has turned this detail into a distinctive feature. The Ta.Ba.Ce. coffee table, made of frost-proof fine porcelain stoneware, is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Available in vibrant colours like talc, hemp, caramel, orange, and espresso, the glossy enamelling enhances the tables' modern and sophisticated look.
Expanding the Table Collection
Zanotta has also extended its table collection with new products introduced during Milan Design Week.
The Tidone table, designed by Studio Calvi Brambilla, is a modern reinterpretation of the classic four-legged wooden table. It features a generous 50 mm thick top and solid supports, available in colors like algae, amaranth, espresso, black, and oak-stained ash. The Tidone table offers flexibility with legs that can be mounted in two different positions, either at the ends for a modern look or set back for a more traditional appearance. The asymmetrical truncated cone design of the legs enhances both stability and aesthetic appeal.
The Zavolo collection, designed by the duo Zaven, draws inspiration from the elegance and precision of the aviation world. This line of coffee tables and consoles, available in various sizes and heights, features a solid structure joined by an inverted 'Y' cross. The MDF structure is finished with a matt lacquer in colors such as talc, wax, hemp, caramel, orange, amaranth, meadow green, lilac, espresso, and black, reflecting a meticulous attention to detail and a quest for perfection.
Zanotta Celebrates the Design Masters
In addition to these new pieces, Zanotta is celebrating its 70th anniversary by presenting re-editions of historical designs by Alessandro Mendini, Ugo La Pietra, and Piero Bottoni. These re-editions, unveiled during Milan Design Week, include the Cuculia bowl and Dealbata vases by Mendini, the Sosia mirror by La Pietra, and the Ara Fenice centrepiece by Bottoni.
Zanotta's decision to re-edit these historical pieces represents an exciting rediscovery of the legacy of Italian design. Through meticulous collaboration with the designers and their heirs, supported by expert craftsmanship, Zanotta has brought back to life iconic pieces that marked an era. The Cuculia bowl, designed by Alessandro Mendini in 1985, features a two-tone glossy lacquer finish, combining aesthetics and functionality in a timeless piece. The Dealbata vases, also by Mendini, are available in white or glossy orange with hand-applied decorative details, showcasing his creative genius.
The Sosia mirror, created by Ugo La Pietra in 1982, is an extra-clear bevelled crystal mirror decorated with a digital print. It can integrate a warm LED light source, transforming it into both a functional and artistic piece. The Ara Fenice centrepiece, originally designed by Piero Bottoni in 1936, has been reimagined using advanced materials like cement resin and Polimex®, maintaining the historical essence while enhancing its functionality.
