The Chairity Project is back!

After a five-year hiatus, we're thrilled to announce The Chairity Project is returning this month during Melbourne Design Week, in partnership with Danish design brand HAY.

2022 marks the fourth edition of this esteemed Cult fundraising event, which invites leading Australian creatives to bravely reinterpret an iconic chair. For Chairity 2022, we have invited 18 creatives to reimagine the Result Chair - a 1950s classic designed by Friso Kramer and Wim Rietveld for Ahrend, and now in production by HAY.

Here we reveal the creatives participating this year, plus everything you need to know about the upcoming online auction and exhibitions in Melbourne and Sydney.

18 CREATIVES x 5 CHARITIES x 2 EXHIBITIONS.

This year, we're delighted to welcome back two creatives who have participated in previous editions of The Chairity Project, including industrial designer Adam Goodrum and graphic design duo Design by Toko, along with 16 new contributors from a cross-section of design disciplines including industrial design, architecture, interiors, art, scent, ceramics and graphic design.

All 18 works will be sold at auction, with full proceeds shared equally between five charities close to our hearts at Cult, including the Cancer Council, Australian Red Cross, St Vincent de Paul, Greening Australia and Gunawirra.

ONLINE AUCTION & EXHIBITION DATES.

The diversity of creatives taking part in the project will result in a wide range of chair reinventions and an enticing auction, which will take place online at chairity.com.au between 17 March - 3 April 2022. The final designs will be exhibited at Cult Design Melbourne during Melbourne Design Week, then HAY Sydney. Open to all, please join us at the exhibitions and share the word!

HAY RESULT CHAIR.

Made with cut-out sheet steel, the Result chair is adaptable, functional, light and strong. It was designed for use in Dutch schools throughout the 1960s and 1970s, and left a lasting impression on a generation of Dutch people, as the chair formed part of their daily lives. This economical use of materials was revolutionary at the time, and the Result chair has since become a mid-century design classic. This 1950s classic was designed by Friso Kramer and Wim Rietveld for Ahrend, and is now in production by HAY.

We can't wait to reveal the Result chair reinterpretations soon. In the meantime, follow #Chairity2022 on Instagram for behind-the-scenes previews.

The Chairity Project is a charitable initiative that would not be possible without the generous support of its partners and suppliers. Cult expresses its deepest thanks to the following event sponsors: NHO | Fiona Susanto | Design by Toko | Inhaabit | Cathy Marshall | Hunter & Co | Inbox Moving Services
