On show for two weeks only from 02 - 17 September, CHROMA is a kaleidoscopic installation unveiling HAY's new Eco Collection, recrafted from household waste.
This exhibition at HAY Melbourne re-launches two bestselling HAY ranges - the iconic About A Collection and Colour Crate - which are now made with 100% recycled post-consumer plastic; a material derived from household waste, like televisions and washing machines.
Through a series of installations, CHROMA shines a light on HAY’s new additions now made using recycled plastic, through the brand’s characteristically colourful and joyous expression.
The exhibition includes two key areas. As vistitors enter the store, they are greeted by the world-travelling Colour Crate House direct from Copenhagen’s 3 Days of Design festival, which took a team of four two full days to build, using over 800 colour crates. The second area towards the back of the store highlights the updated About A Collection Eco, which is now available in nine new colours and made with 100% recycled plastic.
CHROMA opened in conjunction with Saturday Indesign on 02 September 2023 - a one-day design extravaganza which brings together the best of Australia’s design scene with a program of design discussions, interactive installations, workshops, product launches and more.
To celebrate the launch day, our Sustainability Manager, Nicole Johnson, led three fully-booked guided tours to present the latest eco updates from HAY.
We also had a live configurator station set up so visitors could 'mix and match' different seats and bases to experiement with the endless variety offered by HAY's About A Collection.
Visitors enjoyed a range of Danish-style smørrebrød prepared by our team's favourite local cafe, Florian, including rye with macadamia cream, paprika pickled mushrooms and warecress; rye with chive cream cheese, cucumber and horseradish; rye with egg salad and winter radish; plus gingerbread cakes with creme fraiche and nutmeg.
We also served refreshing drinks from NON, the Australian specialists in non-alcoholic beverages with bold and complex flavours. Flavours included NON7 Stewed Cherry & Coffee, NON3 Toasted Cinnamon & Yuzu and NON1 Salted Raspberry & Chamomile.
Almost 600 people came to visit the HAY Melbourne store for this exhibition launch! Our team had a brilliant time connecting with new and old contacts, thank you to everyone who made the time to stop by.
CHROMA is on show until 17 September, open daily from 10am - 5pm at HAY Melbourne (176 Johnston Street, Fitzroy).
