A considered step forward

We’re pleased to share that Nau has achieved GECA certification across a selection of its products, marking a considered step forward in our sustainability journey at Cult Design.

At Cult Design, sustainability is not an addition, but an ongoing commitment embedded within how we design, source and specify. The recent GECA certification of selected Nau products marks an important step in this journey, one grounded in transparency, accountability and long-term thinking.

What is GECA?

Good Environmental Choice Australia, commonly known as GECA, is Australia’s leading independent ecolabel. It certifies products and services that meet rigorous environmental, social and human health standards.

As a not-for-profit program aligned with ISO 14024 principles and part of the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN), GECA offers a level of credibility and independence that is globally recognised. Its criteria are publicly available, ensuring complete transparency in how products are assessed.

Why we pursued GECA

We chose GECA because it reflects the values that guide Cult- sustainability, clarity and responsible manufacturing.

Unlike self-assessed claims, GECA evaluates the entire product lifecycle, from raw material extraction through to end-of-life considerations. This independent verification allows us to stand behind our products with confidence, offering our clients assurance that sustainability claims are both meaningful and measurable.

What it means for our products

GECA certification considers the full life of a product, assessing impacts across materials, production, use and longevity. This includes careful evaluation of material composition and toxicity, energy and water consumption, waste and emissions, as well as worker conditions and human health.

For our Nau range, this results in products that are responsibly sourced and manufactured, supported by a warranty of up to 7 years. Just as importantly, it ensures low VOC materials that contribute to healthier interior environments.

The outcome is simple: products that can be specified with clarity and confidence.

GECA and Green Star

GECA-certified products are recognised by the Green Building Council of Australia within the Green Star rating system, contributing to Responsible Product Value (RPV) points.

For architects, designers and developers, this provides a clear pathway to meeting sustainability benchmarks across commercial and public projects, supporting better outcomes at both a project and industry level.

Designed with intention

GECA certification is not a final point, but part of an evolving process. As we continue to refine our collections and partnerships, it remains a benchmark for how we approach design, considered, transparent and made to last.
