We all have a role to play in creating a more equal world and International Women's Day is a good opportunity to emphasise what can be done everyday by everyone. Cult has proudly supported the NAWIC NSW International Women’s Day Breakfast and scholarship program for over a decade, and it was an absoulte honour to host the annual event at Cult Sydney this week.
The number of women in Executive and C-Suite positions within the construction industry continues to be unbalanced. Without women in these roles, having a seat at the table and sharing their perspectives and experience, the ability for the industry to be truly inclusive and equitable will be limited.
In response, at the breakfast event, NAWIC NSW announced a new scholarshop opportunity with the introduction of a new Women's Executive Leadership Scholarship, which recognises women who are driving change in the construction industry.
During the breakfast event, a number of speakers provided their insight on this year's IWD theme; Crack the Code: Innovation for a Gender Equal Future.
MPA Director of Client Relations, Sarah Hogan, opened the event and spoke about “our collective mission to create an equitable construction industry where women fully participate.” And how this will only be possible when, "we crack our cultural, economic and social codes and behaviours that entrench inequality.”
We also heard from National Chair of the NAWIC board, Christina Yiakkoupis, who said, "Our industry has a long way to go in becoming truly inclusive but by putting yourself out there and being as loud as you feel comfortable to be, you are being seen by the incoming generations and working towards making construction more accessible, safe and welcoming for everyone".

By equipping women with the business acumen and leadership skills to face the challenges of a volatile, complex, and uncertain environment, NAWIC NSW will cover the cost of tuition fees, travel allowance, and other related costs for the recipient to use towards an executive leadership program of their choice to the value of $30,000.
Scholarship submissions close on 28 April 2023 and the winner will be announced in August 2023.
